The Pin Light Focus – June

I’m sorry I haven’t been able to write much this month but look out for some upcoming posts on interview techniques, CV tips and ways to apply your creativity to help you stand out as a strong candidate in a challenging job market. But before all of that, in this month’s Pin Light Focus I have some great sites and articles to share with you to keep you entertained and intrigued.

Sounds of Science, Life, Work and Everything Else

Something I miss about going into the office is the daily commute where I could listen to podcasts about obscure and random topics. I could try to listen them at home but it’s just not the same and I find them too distracting, which is not the best thing when I’m working. However, I’m tempted to try again now that Wired has compiled this seriously impressive list of the best podcasts for curiosity seekers.  It’s got something for everyone and lots topics to stimulate your interest and obsess over. Interested in food? Gastropod might be for you. Or if you’re fan of The Office US then you really should check out Office Ladies hosted by the fantastic Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey. I’m really into Eat Sleep Work Repeat at the moment, which discusses ways to make work better and the architecture-themed 99% Invisible.  Check out the list here

Cut to Video

I admit, I have quite a ham-fisted approach to editing videos. Over the years I’ve tried to improve my skills and luckily for me, I came across this useful article on Gizmodo with some easy to use programmes to make professional-looking videos. They have user-friendly interfaces and plenty of features, best of all they are absolutely free. Take a look here

Returning to your workplace, know your rights

Worried about returning to work during the pandemic? You’re not the only one, and knowing your rights can help alleviate any concerns you may have. Marie Claire spoke to a solicitor to answer some pressing questions to consider when you’re being asked to go back into the workplace. Read it here

Backpack bikes

If you are planning to go back into the office but want to avoid using public transport, here’s a novel idea: how about investing in an inflatable electric bike? I love and want this so much! Check it out here
